Overview
Rehabilitation That Moves
With You.
Our Conventional & Pilates-Based Therapy program combines evidence-based physical therapy with Pilates-inspired movement to reduce pain, restore mobility, and improve long-term function. Every treatment plan is tailored to your condition, lifestyle, and goals.
Sessions are one-on-one with a New York State licensed Doctor of Physical Therapy — not a group class. Every therapist here has also completed the BASI Pilates teacher training program, so the clinician who assesses your injury is the one who designs and coaches the movement that rehabilitates it, using clinical apparatus — reformer, Cadillac and tower, chair and barrels — to make each exercise easier or harder as you progress.

Questions Answered
Everything You
Need to Know.
What is Conventional & Pilates-Based Therapy?
It combines traditional physical therapy with Pilates-based movement to improve strength, flexibility, posture, balance, and overall function through a personalized rehabilitation program.
How is this different from a regular Pilates class?
Your treatment is provided by a licensed physical therapist who can address a specific injury or medical condition, not by a group fitness instructor. Sessions combine manual therapy and traditional therapeutic exercise with clinical Pilates apparatus — reformer, Cadillac and tower, chair and barrels — and every exercise is modified to your diagnosis and your current ability.
Is Pilates-based therapy suitable for everyone?
No prior Pilates experience is necessary. Our physical therapists are trained to work with patients at all levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. Every exercise is taught from the ground up and modified to match your current abilities and limitations, whether you are recovering from major surgery or managing a chronic condition.
How long is a session, and what happens in one?
Sessions typically run 45 to 60 minutes; your initial evaluation may take longer so we can assess your movement, strength, flexibility and posture and build the plan with you. A treatment visit usually includes targeted manual therapy, progressive Pilates-based and traditional exercises, education on body mechanics and home care, and adjustments based on how you responded the week before.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies based on your condition, severity, and individual response to treatment. Acute injuries may require 6-8 weeks, while chronic conditions or post-surgical rehabilitation might need 8-12 weeks or longer. Your physical therapist will provide an estimated timeline after your initial evaluation and adjust as needed based on your progress.
Will I receive exercises to do at home?
Yes. Home exercises are an important component of your rehabilitation. Your physical therapist will prescribe specific exercises, stretches, and movement awareness practices to perform between sessions. These are crucial for maintaining progress and achieving optimal outcomes, and many can be done without special equipment.
Is it covered by insurance, and do I need a referral?
Because treatment is delivered by a licensed physical therapist, Pilates-based physical therapy is typically covered like any other physical therapy. Coverage varies by plan and may involve a copay or deductible. In New York you can see a physical therapist for 10 visits or 30 days without a referral, though your plan may still require one — our office can verify your specific benefits before you begin.
Can this treatment help prevent future injuries?
Yes. Balanced strength and proper mechanics reduce future injury risk. The approach develops core strength, improves movement efficiency, enhances flexibility, and corrects muscle imbalances that can lead to injury, and the skills learned in therapy translate to long-term wellness practices.
