Questions Answered
Everything You
Need to Know.
What are hormones and why are they important?
Hormones are chemical messengers that help regulate many processes throughout the body, including metabolism, sleep, mood, reproduction, and energy.
What are common signs of hormonal imbalance?
When hormonal imbalances occur, there is too much or not enough of a hormone in the bloodstream. Because hormones play an essential role in the body, even small imbalances can cause side effects felt through the entire body — sleeplessness, hot flashes, night sweats, unexplained weight gain, low sex drive, trouble concentrating, lack of energy, mood swings, fatigue, bloating, headaches and thinning hair.
How are hormone levels evaluated?
The hormone testing we do at Physio Logic aims to identify excessive or insufficient hormone levels in order to balance your endocrine system. We evaluate your hormone levels through comprehensive blood work, DUTCH testing, questionnaires, diet recall and analysis, and cortisol saliva testing.
What is DUTCH testing?
DUTCH stands for Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones. Traditional blood testing only gathers information about your hormone levels at the moment of the test, but hormone levels fluctuate throughout the day. The DUTCH test captures several dried urine samples across the day and measures hormones alongside their metabolites, giving a fuller picture of how your body is producing and clearing them.
Can stress affect hormone health?
Yes. Cortisol is our stress hormone, produced by the adrenal glands to help control blood sugar, regulate metabolism, influence memory formation, and reduce inflammation, and the timing of its release is linked to daily activity patterns. Many Americans suffer from cortisol imbalances due to high stress levels and chronic blue light exposure, which may ultimately lead to disrupted sleep patterns and weight gain.
