Overview

Target the Knot.
Restore Movement.

Trigger points are palpable, hypersensitive knots found in taut bands of muscle. Pressed, they often produce a characteristic referred pain pattern and a twitch response in the surrounding muscle tissue.

To deactivate one, your therapist applies pressure to the knot until a change in the tissue is felt. Deactivating trigger points helps decrease pain and restore circulation in the affected area.

Commonly Helps With:

  • Knots in taut bands of muscle
  • Referred pain in surrounding muscle tissue
  • Tenderness and twitch response when pressed
  • Restricted circulation in the affected area
  • Muscle tension that limits range of motion

What is trigger point therapy?

Trigger point therapy uses focused pressure on sensitive areas within tight muscle bands to help release tension and improve tissue mobility.

What are trigger points?

Trigger points are palpable hypersensitive knots found in taut muscle bands. They often create a characteristic referred pain pattern and twitch response in surrounding muscle tissue when pressed.

Does trigger point therapy hurt?

Trigger point therapy — and myofascial release too — can feel pretty intense at times. Pressure is applied to the knot until a change in the tissue is felt, which makes these sessions a good opportunity to work on diaphragmatic breathing.

What can trigger point therapy help with?

Trigger point therapy is used to treat knots in the muscle. Deactivating trigger points helps decrease pain and restore circulation in the affected area.

Can trigger point therapy support athletic performance?

Trigger point therapy offers a good opportunity to work on improving diaphragmatic breathing. Diaphragmatic breathing is a highly efficient form of breathing in terms of O2/CO2 exchange for our tissues, and it helps regulate the body's nervous system — both key factors for improved sports performance.
