Overview
Advanced Instrument-Assisted
Soft Tissue Therapy.
Graston Technique® uses specially designed stainless steel instruments to identify and treat scar tissue, fascial restrictions, and chronic soft tissue dysfunction. By stimulating the body's natural healing response, this treatment restores mobility, reduces pain, and improves overall movement.
Most patients describe the sensation as a deep massage. Minor bruising or temporary skin discoloration is common and expected — it signals that adhesions are releasing and blood flow to the area has increased — and it usually clears within a few days. Many people notice improved mobility and reduced tension straight after treatment.

Questions Answered
Everything You
Need to Know.
Does Graston Technique® hurt?
Most patients describe the sensation as similar to a deep massage. You may feel some tenderness in areas with significant tissue restriction, but discomfort should remain tolerable. Minor bruising or skin discoloration is common and expected. Any mild soreness typically resolves within 24-48 hours. Your clinician adjusts pressure based on your tolerance.
How long is a Graston Technique® appointment?
Your first visit is a 60-minute evaluation. We go through your injury history, current symptoms, the treatments you have already tried and the goals you want to get back to, then examine the tissue and build a treatment plan with you. Follow-up treatment sessions run 30 to 45 minutes.
How many sessions will I need?
Most patients see significant results within 4-8 sessions, depending on the severity and chronicity of the condition. Acute injuries may require fewer sessions, while chronic conditions or extensive scar tissue may need 8-12 sessions. Your clinician will provide an estimated treatment timeline after your initial evaluation.
How is Graston Technique® different from a deep tissue massage?
Both work on soft tissue, but Graston Technique® uses specially designed instruments that amplify changes in tissue texture, allowing precise detection and treatment of scar tissue and adhesions. That mechanical advantage lets a clinician apply more focused pressure with less strain, targeting specific dysfunctional tissue that manual techniques might miss.
Is there anyone who should not have Graston Technique®?
Graston Technique® should not be used over open wounds, unhealed fractures, acute infections or certain skin conditions, and it requires caution for patients taking blood thinners or living with a bleeding disorder. If you are pregnant, check with your physician first. Your practitioner screens for all of this before treatment begins.
Does insurance cover Graston Technique®?
Coverage varies by plan. Graston Technique® is typically covered as part of chiropractic care, physical therapy or another covered service when medically necessary — it is usually not billed separately, but as a technique within your covered visit. Our office can verify your specific benefits before you come in.
